George Partal Woodturning
My trusty Oneway 2436 lathe
I first create a well for the partially turned vessel.
I place the partially turned burl inside the MDF ring form which is built one ring at a time.
The resin (acrylic) is poured slowy into the form around the burl.
I then place the form with the liquid resin (acrylic) into the pressure pot and turn on the pressure to about 70 psi to collapse the small bubbles introduced during the mica powder mixing.
The PearlEx mica powders impart a unique depth and metallic color to the clear acrylic.
The wood is dried in a kiln and then the burl piece is partially turned after the bark is removed.
Once the resin is dry, I remount the MDF piece on the lathe and slowly begin to remove the MDF shell.
