ABOUT

George Partal lives in the beautiful town of Bangor, Maine. It is an eclectic neighborhood with a growing art community situated close to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park on the Atlantic Ocean. His art pieces are wood turnings and some, with a surprise element. Resins and colored acrylics are cast into wood burls to create stunning decorative hollow vessels.

ARTIST STATEMENT

As an orthopaedic surgeon, woodworking is a natural extention of using my hands with utmost attention to detail. The hollow forms with acrylic resin combine a unique piece of wood with multiple natural quirks (bark inclusions, cracks, and checks) which otherwise would be unusable on its own with the beauty and depth of colored resin. The visual textures created by the blend of colored resin and burl wood grain are striking on their own and are outlined when incorporated with a simple classical form with good proportions.

Woodturning is my creative outlet ouside the operating room. I pour a little piece of me into every piece I make. Nothing makes me happier than when others get enjoyment out of what I create.
